18+ Bedroom Spaces with Clever Twists

6. Epic Closet Makeover by @Johndolechek!

Part 1: Ready to turn a blank room into a dream closet? (Here’s the transcriptions)

Kick-off by setting a base – no need to damage that fancy trim in the room. This base will serve as a toe-kick for future cabinets. Make sure you secure everything to wall studs. Picture this: eight drawers and an open cabinet split into three fab sections. And guess what? My awesome wife co-designed it! Secure it all, and voilà, see the design blossom. Attach the countertop, and stay tuned for the upcoming magic!

Part 2: Now, onto the closet’s skyscraper phase.

This unit touches the ceiling, so it needs solid support. Given that I’ve crafted a sturdy base, I can even walk on it (yeah, it’s that strong!). Use a nail gun for panels, making it a cinch to cover with wood glue later. Fancy a change? Stain it! Add overhead shelves for those once-a-year items. Fixing a large shelf without showing screws? Challenge accepted! Crown it all with a molding at the top. Connect the top and base with wooden pieces to make it neat, dividing it into three snazzy sections. With the clothes rack up, it’s almost showtime. Stunning, right?

Part 3: The grand finale!

The closet needs a star feature: A ladder-esque structure right up to the ceiling. Make two of these ladders, slide ’em in, and behold! The perfect frame for shelves. Oh, it’s for those things on your feet (wink, wink). Displaying shoes at a 15° angle? Totally chic, especially up top. Don’t forget the crown molding – it’s the cherry on top. But wait, there’s more! Add extra storage on the other side. Brackets ready for four additional shelves – perfect for shoes or seasonal stuff.

Better wrap this up – my clients are buzzing to move in.

5. Transform Your Room with a DIY Hut: The Perfect Study or Secret Base!

99diy.tokyo

Ever dreamed of having a personalized space inside your room? This guide will walk you through how to craft a small hut that’s functional and aesthetically pleasing.

1. Preview of Before & After:
The room started with a DIY blue wall and flooring, and we transformed one corner into an amazing hut.

2. Dimensions & Design:
Plan your design! The structure’s dimensions are essential. Check out the blueprint that highlights square timbers in light blue and plywood walls in orange.

3. Building the Frame:
For the framework, use 30mm x 40mm square lumber and both 35mm and 55mm slim screws. These screws prevent the wood from cracking, which is perfect for beginners. To get started:

  • Secure the top, bottom, left, and right square pieces to the walls using the 35mm screws.
  • Use a level (like the Shinwa 300mm) to ensure everything’s straight.
  • Build the vertical pillars and secure the top wood to finalize the side frame.

4. Strengthening with Additional Wood:
Insert approximately 4 vertical pieces between the frames, ideally at 303mm intervals, for added sturdiness.

5. Applying the OSB Plywood Walls:
OSB plywood, made from hardened wood chips, is both trendy and practical. Attach it to the frame using screws spaced about 20cm apart.

6. Final Touches:

The resulting hut offers a space with depth and can be transformed into a study, a walk-in closet, or even a secret base for kids. Contemplate adding a ceiling or a window for a different vibe.

7. Materials & Tools Used:

  • OSB Plywood: 9mm thick, 908mm width, 1815mm length.
  • Square Lumber: 1980 x 30 x 40 mm (24 pieces).
  • Slim Screws: 35mm and 65mm.
  • Tools: RYOBI Impact Driver, Makita electric circular saw, Shinwa level.

This transformation is a game-changer for both rentals and owned properties. It brings back the childlike wonder of having a secret base right in your room. And for those interested in other DIY projects, check out the article on attaching 5mm thick scaffolding boards to rental walls. Simple efficient, and you only need a tacker, double-sided tape, and a cutter.

4. A 3-in-1 cabinet DIY Project Idea

Vtwonen.nl

Create a functional 3-in-1 cabinet perfect for your hall! Not just for coats, but it’s a nifty storage for shoes, scarves, and more. Plus, it’s a handy seat for shoe-donning antics. This DIY wonder is 162 cm wide, 182 cm high, and 35 cm deep, crafted from 18 mm thick birch plywood.

Materials for the tall cabinet:

  • 2x sides (32.8×170 cm)
  • Base, top, intermediate plates (32.8×77.4 cm each)
  • Backplate (31.4×77.4 cm)
  • 2x doors (34.7×40.3 cm)
  • Round beech stick Ø 22 mm, 97 cm long
  • Cabinet essentials: hinges, push snaps, onderstel (81x35x12 cm).

For the shorter cabinet:

  • Sides, base, and bovenplaat.
  • Shelf (29.0 x 77.2 cm)
  • Backplate and doors.

Tools:

Dowels (8 mm), glue, sandpaper, screws, speed drills (25 mm & 10 mm), wood drills (4 & 8 mm), and milling cutter (35 mm).

Let’s DIY:

  1. Get materials sawed as required.
  2. For the tall cabinet: Drill holes for the rod and door hinges. Sand edges, drill dowel holes, and assemble using glue.
  3. Attach rod.
Assemble like the taller counterpart for the shorter one but exclude the intermediate plate. Add shelf supports.
  4. Fuse cabinets on bases, unite them and place the shelf.
  5. Finalize with cabinet hinges, mount doors, adjust them, and ensure smooth door movements with drill-in snaps.

Your chic multitasking cabinet awaits!

3. A Trendy Wood Slat Shelf Idea

Theyellowrosefarmhouse.com

Embrace the trendy wood slat accent wall tailored for Harry Potter aficionados! In a bedroom themed around the magical world, you can create a space that’s both stylish and functional. To infuse some magic into your kid’s space, particularly if it’s filled with Harry Potter and Lego memorabilia, consider adding a wood slat accent wall with purposeful shelves.

Here’s a quick guide:

1. Measure: Your first task is to measure the wall. Our target space was 47” across.

2. Materials: Get 11 pieces of 1x3x8 pine boards, 5 pieces of 1x6x8 (shelves), and 5 pieces of 1x2x8 (shelf supports). Don’t forget trim screws, wood filler, stain, dowel rods, eye hooks, and spray paint.

3. Stain: Begin by staining all the wood. The ‘Weathered Oak’ shade strikes a lovely contrast against dark green walls.

4. Setting up: Lay out the 1x3x8 pine boards, ensuring they’re 2 inches apart. Start from a corner, use a level to maintain consistency, and secure them using trim screws.

5. Shelves: Measure the required shelf length. Cut your 1x6x8 and 1x2x8 boards, fix the shelf supports, and place the shelves atop. Securing them to wall studs ensures stability.

6. Final Touches: Fill any holes, sand the rough spots, and retouch with stain. Optionally, add a rail to each shelf by cutting dowel rods and painting them black for a metallic touch. Secure using eye hooks, ensuring they’re evenly spaced.

The result? An enchanting wall that marries contemporary design with a hint of Hogwarts, the perfect backdrop for a treasure trove of Harry Potter toys, Legos, and books. Build and revel in the magic!

2. Get ready to make a chic Scandi/Minimalistic wardrobe and shoe bench using light wood and copper pipes!

Makeitboho.de

For the Wardrobe:

  1. Start with five wooden boards. Get these dimensions: top board (150x40x1.8 cm), two side pieces (40x15x1.8 cm), middle (38.2x15x1.8 cm), and back (146.4x15x1.8 cm). Combine with express wood glue and nails.
  2. Drill two 15 mm holes in the side and middle sections, 23 cm apart. Don’t drill entirely through the side pieces.
  3. Trim two copper pipes to 148 cm and assemble them with the middle segment.

For the Shoe Bench:

  1. The foundation is a 150x42x1.8 cm board and two 42x45x1.8 cm sides. Glue, then nail them.
  2. Attach a 146.4x38x1.8 cm back wall and a 40x45x1.8 cm center with the same method.
  3. On the sides, drill 1.5 cm holes, 5 cm from the bottom, creating indentations for the pipes. Drill entirely through the middle part. Insert 15 mm copper pipes. To economize, cut them into 74 cm lengths (or use 150 cm pipes as is).
  4. For added storage, glue two 74.8x15x40 cm drawers together, securing them with metal runners. Drill a 15 mm central hole on the drawer’s front for a sleek handle.
  5. To protect your floors, attach felt adhesives underneath.

Craft, flaunt, and enjoy your minimalistic setup!

Lastly, No 1. A Custom Shelf Fitting Idea for a Tight Closet

Robinlewismakes

Materials You’ll Need:

– Laminated pine panels (1.8m long, 450mm wide, 18mm thick). While melamine is a popular choice in some places, there’s a timeless charm to solid timber.

Steps to Follow:

1. Measure Up: Start by determining the height of each shelf; remember, they can vary based on your needs.

2. Use Your Tools: Get an 18mm router to match the panel size and create grooves (dados) so the shelves fit snugly.

3. Cut and Shape: Trim those shelves using a saw and refine their edges with a block plane. This makes it easier to slot them into their places.

4. Assembly Time: As you glue and fit the first set of shelves, here’s a tip: do them individually. It’s way simpler! Secure them using screws from the back, which essentially act as clamps.

5. Dealing with Double Sides: For the two-sided shelves, make sure to cut your dados across both panels in a single pass.

6. Finishing Touches: After assembly, some shelves might need more clamps. Sand everything for a smooth finish. And here’s a pro tip: pine sands super quickly!

7. Get That Gleam: Use Cabot CFP floor water-based polyurethane for a tack-free finish. Unlike some polyurethanes that stay sticky, this one dries rock-solid in 12 hours.

8. Support and Install: While traditional shelf supports work, you might consider sleeker ones for a chic look. Fit them, ensuring they’re level. Keep those closet doors on, and place the shelves in halves. Add a long top shelf, and voilà!

Remember, while pine might not be everyone’s first choice, its convenience and charm can make your closet stand out. Dive in and get shelving!

Thanks for tuning in! Remember always to trust the process and enjoy the outcome.
